Customer q:
Hi, I want to replace my OEM 305 engine. Currently, I have a 1987 El Camino with a 305 v8 and a four spd automatic trans (200-4r?). Much of the emission control system has already been removed and I believe the computer is only used for the engine timing and transmission shifting. I want to replace the engine with GM's 350/290 hp unit, but want to make certain all parts required are considered and priced: engine, mounts, distributor, high capacity water pump, harmonic damper, flex plate, up-fit trans for no computer use (I want to strip out the computer altogether), starter? The present 305 engine was fitted by PO with a Holley Avenger carb, I would like to use that, exhaust manifolds and the new radiator put in a few months ago. I want a complete list of parts required, prices, including those parts that are convenient to replace when swapping the engine or could possible fail soon. This should be a considered a swap for reliability.
