STATESVILLE, N.C. (July 10, 2018)—In a state known for horsepower, albeit of the four-legged variety, it is fitting that Cody Coughlin, driver of the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado, will be focused on the 700-horsepower powerhouse designed to dominate on track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 at the Kentucky Speedway.

That much power demands skill and constant focus from Coughlin to keep all of those “horses” under control. In addition, crew chief Jerry Baxter will need to set-up the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado to have the handling that Coughlin will need to navigate around the 1.5-mile track and through the 17-degree banking in Turn 1 and Turn 2, as well as the 14-degree banks through Turn 3 and Turn 4.

“GMS Racing has provided an improved package as our team is headed to the Kentucky Speedway,” Coughlin said. “The package has been implementing itself well at the other tracks we have ran it at.

“There are some similarities between the Kentucky Speedway and the Texas Motor Speedway, and we ran well there with that package, so I expect us to run well on Thursday evening. The biggest thing is to not over drive in Turn 3, so you can make it cut and get back to power coming off the corner.”

The 22-year old will pilot Chassis No. 312 in the Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 at the Kentucky Speedway. The Baxter-led team last unloaded this GMS Racing prepared chassis at the Texas Motor Speedway on June 8, where Coughlin finished in the eighth-position in the chassis’ first appearance of the 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.

This weekend marks Coughlin’s third Kentucky Speedway appearance with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Last year, the Delaware, Ohio, driver finished in the 15th-place at the tri-oval speedway. On July 9, 2015, Coughlin made his debut with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the Kentucky Speedway with Venturini Motorsports.

“The Kentucky Speedway has been proven to be a bit tricky for me in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series,” Coughlin said. “I ran well there in the ARCA Racing Series.”

Coughlin has one start in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) Racing Series at the Kentucky Speedway. In 2014, Coughlin posted a fourth-place finish after starting from the sixth-place with Venturini Motorsports.

Coughlin’s speedway (tracks 1 to 2-miles in length) starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series have improved dramatically every start; he’s recorded one top-five and seven top-10 finishes, with four of the top-ten finishes on speedways happening in this 2018 season.

Since entering the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2013, the Statesville, N.C.,-based GMS Racing team has logged 11 starts at the Kentucky Speedway, resulting in two top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes, with an average starting position of 11.4 and an average finishing position of 13.5 with 44 laps led at the Sparta, Ky.,-facility.

Baxter has three top-five and three top-10 finishes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the Kentucky Speedway in seven starts. In addition, he has one top-ten finish in five NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) starts.

Terry Cook, former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver and spotter for Coughlin, boasts four top-10 finishes in 10 starts at the Kentucky Speedway.

The Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 will be broadcast live on FS1 on Thursday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. (ET). It will also broadcast live at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Qualifying for the 12th event of the 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule will air on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. (ET) on FS1.

The Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 at the Kentucky Speedway will re-air on Friday, July 13 at 3:30 a.m. (ET) on FS1.
